BIOREMEDIATION SOLVENTS TESTED AND PROVEN TO REMOVE CONTAMINANTS FROM SOIL AND WATER. TSI’s experience indicates that site remediation costs for various technologies are generally consistent with the cost metrics which are discussed in Quinton et al's 1997 paper entitled “A method to compare groundwater cleanup technologies”. In that paper, the authors predict costs (on a net present cost basis) for Natural Attenuation to be 9% and Accelerated Anaerobic Bioremediation to be 13% of a Pump-and-Treat System, i.e. a savings of 91% and 87% respectively. There are basically three different techniques for in situ biological transformation of chlorinated contaminants: Natural Attenuation; Passive Accelerated Anaerobic Bioremediation; and Accelerated Anaerobic Bioremediation. Depending on site conditions, economics, and the site owner's goals, one or more of these techniques can be used at the site. Read more...Rationale for Biological Approach. SRS™ -- Slow Release Substrate is a patented engineered product for the reductive dechlorination of chlorinated solvents or any anaerobically degradable substance. The substrate package is a low viscosity liquid that contains a combination of slow and fast release electron donors and nutrients. Its viscosity is similar to that of milk which translates into a significantly larger dispersion pattern than other products. One injection will typically enhance biological activity for 3 to 5 years. Key Benefits... QRS™ -- Quick Release Substrate is an engineered product for the reductive dechlorination of chlorinated solvents or any anaerobically degradable substance. This substrate package contains a fast release electron donor in addition to a nutrient package. It is intended for projects that are on a fast track. One injection will typically enhance biological activity for 2 months. Key Benefits... MTS™ -- Metals Treatment Substrate is a slow-release product that has been designed to remove a range of dissolved metals from groundwater via in situ immobilization and also to provide a substrate for biodegradation of chlorinated compounds. It contains sulfate and an organic substrate to generate sulfide ions that upon contact with metal ions reacts to produce a metal-sulfide precipitate. This precipitate is immobile in the subsurface because it sorbs strongly to the soil. Key Benefits...
TSI DC
Bioaugmentation Culture™
is an enriched
bacteria culture that contains dehalcoccoides for
bioaugmentation. It can be used at sites where bacteria capable of
complete reductive dechlorination of tetrachloroethene (PCE) or
trichloroethene (TCE) are not present or where there is a need to
decrease the remediation time frame. Microbubbler™ is an inexpensive oxygen generation and delivery system that reduces the cost of dissolved oxygen to below $0.40 per pound. Depending on site conditions, typical oxygen requirements for biodegradation of petroleum hydrocarbons is 2 to 3 pounds. The cost of alternative sources of oxygen such as solid peroxygens can be extremely high in comparison. Key Benefits... Laboratory Treatability Studies for the evaluation of monitored natural attenuation, enhanced aerobic bioremediation of petroleum contaminants, enhanced anaerobic bioremediation of chlorinated solvents and in situ chemical oxidation. |
Terra Systems, Inc. is one of the most experienced companies in conducting treatability studies having conducted well over 100 studies to evaluate monitored natural attenuation of organic contaminants, enhanced aerobic bioremediation of petroleum contaminants, and enhanced anaerobic bioremediation of chlorinated solvents. TSI also has extensive experience conducting treatability studies for in-situ chemical oxidation. Visit the TSI Services link for more... |
