Who We Are

Terra Systems was founded in 1992 and holds the 1st United States Patent for the use of emulsified vegetable oil substrate, lactate and nutrients for the in-situ bioremediation of chlorinated solvents in groundwater (US Patent 6,398,960). Since then, using our core competencies in research and development, in-house manufacturing and unsurpassed pre- and post-sales technical support, we have expanded our family of bioremediation products to offer our clients a variety of site remediation products.  These products can be utilized in a technology treatment train approach for the broadest solutions for today’s challenging aquifer conditions.

Terra Systems scientists pioneered enhanced in situ bioremediation technology starting with aerobic bioremediation in the 1970’s when Richard Raymond, Sr. received the first patent for in-situ bioremediation of petroleum hydrocarbon (US Patent 3,846,290 issued in 1974) at the SunOil Company Ambler, PA site.

He is acknowledged by the US EPA as the “grandfather of in-situ bioremediation” in the United States.  Mr. Raymond received numerous awards for his research over the years including the Society of Industrial Microbiologists Charles Porter Award and the 2016 AEHS Lifetime Achievement Award for his pioneering in-situ bioremediation research.

Today, led by Richard Raymond, Jr., Terra Systems develops cutting edge biological based solutions to solve complex remediation problems backed by a strong Research & Development program and our state-of-the-art manufacturing plant. We develop, produce and distribute value-added products that are well beyond the manufacturing capabilities of the toll producers used by other suppliers. Our patented long lasting emulsified vegetable oil products (our SRS® Family), our emulsified vegetable oil products combined with zero valent iron (our SRS®-ZVI and EZVI® Family), our quick release lactate products (our QRS™ Family) and our TSI-DC® Bioaugmentation Cultures have assisted site remediation companies with green remediation alternatives for over 25 years.

Terra Systems operates its own manufacturing facilities and can easily setup “Just-In-Time” manufacturing and delivery of SRS®, QRS™ and TSI-DC® Bioaugmentation Culture to your site. We work closely with the on-site project managers to produce and deliver our products based on real-time site conditions. The benefit of this is that if the project manager runs into any injection delays, they don’t have to worry about on-site storage of large amounts of material, especially in hot weather. As a product supplier, we view environmental consulting companies as our customers, not our competitors and our goal is to make you successful with your clients.

Terra Systems holds an industry and product leadership position in sustainable remediation.

  1. We are one of the original founders of the Sustainable Remediation Forum (SURF) in November 2006.  SURF’s mission is to maximize the overall environmental, societal, and economic benefits from the site cleanup process.
  2. Terra Systems purchases carbon offsets for its’ products such that the product arrives at the job site with a zero carbon footprint.
  3. Terra Systems’ patented Family of SRS® emulsified vegetable oil substrates is certified under the USDA Biopreferred Program as a 98% biobased product.
  4. Terra Systems’ sources our raw materials and other products from local sources where possible.
  5. Recycling of totes and drums. Terra Systems will pickup and recycle drums or totes within 200 miles of our facility in Claymont, DE. We will pickup our drums or totes within 25 miles of our facility for free and charge a nominal fee up to 200 miles

Terra Systems continues to lead the way by leveraging its core competencies of:

  1. Research and Development
  2. Customer Driven EVO Formulations
  3. QA and QC on Manufacturing Floor
  4. US and Japan Manufacturing
  5. US Production Staff
  6. Treatability Study Laboratory
  7. Sustainability

KEY EVENTS

2016:    Develops SRS®NR to support anaerobic biodegradation of nitrate from septic systems in permeable reactive barriers. SRS®NR is comprised of soybean oil and charged surfactants for maximum retention in high groundwater flow aquifers like Cape Cod, MA.
2015:    Licenses Primawave from Wavefront Technologies for Terra Systems US Rental Program. Primawave’s pulsating action provides a superior method for introducing in-situ bioremediation and ISCO remedial fluids into aquifers. The simple, low-maintenance designs allow for on-the-fly adjustability and low operating costs and the tools are available for immediate rental on a daily, weekly or monthly basis
2013:    Introduction of SRS®-Zvi, an emulsified vegetable oil substrate combined with microscale iron, which combines anaerobic and abiotic remediation with superior injectability and radius of influence.
2012:    Introduction of SRS®-C, a custom formulation of our large (SRS®-FRL) and small droplet (SRS®-SD) patented emulsified vegetable oil substrate for maximum retention near the point of injection (SRS®-FRL) and maximum radius of influence downgradient (SRS®-SD).
2011:    Introduction of SRS®-FRL, a large droplet emulsified vegetable oil substrate with a proprietary anionic emulsifier for high groundwater flow-rate aquifers, fractured rock formations and PRB’s.
