Calcium Peroxide and Microbubbler Oxygen System

Enhanced Aerobic Bioremediation of sites contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons (BTEX, PAHs, TPH), fuel oxygenates, and related compounds (MTBE, TBA) require the addition of oxygen for the aerobic microorganisms in the aquifer to thrive. As a general rule, three pounds of oxygen are required to degrade one pound of petroleum hydrocarbon.

Terra Systems’ Calcium Peroxide (CPO) is an oxygen-generating compound, which is added to the groundwater for enhanced aerobic bioremediation at sites typically contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons (BTEX, PAHs, TPH), fuel oxygenates, and related compounds (MTBE, TBA). CPO provides the necessary source of oxygen for the aerobic microorganisms in the aquifer.

Key Communication Points

  • Calcium Peroxide (CPO) is an oxygen-releasing compound used to promote aerobic biodegradation in groundwater and soil for In-Situ Bioremediation.
  • Proven effective for the remediation of hydrocarbon contaminants like petroleum hydrocarbons (BTEX, PAHs, TPH), fuel oxygenates, and related compounds (MTBE, TBA).
  • Suitable for sites with low to moderate levels of contamination.
  • The slow-release formulation provides a slow release of 16.6% active oxygen for up to 12 months.

Terra Systems’ Microbubbler Oxygen System is an oxygen-generating system, which adds oxygen to the groundwater for enhanced aerobic bioremediation at sites typically contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons (BTEX, PAHs, TPH), fuel oxygenates, and related compounds (MTBE, TBA). The Microbubbler provides the necessary supplemental supply of oxygen for the aerobic microorganisms in the aquifer.

Key Communication Points

  • The Microbubbler concentrates oxygen from the ambient air on a continuous basis to promote aerobic biodegradation in groundwater for In-Situ Bioremediation. The basic unit can provide 24 pounds of oxygen per day.
  • Proven effective for the remediation of hydrocarbon contaminants like petroleum hydrocarbons (BTEX, PAHs, TPH), fuel oxygenates, and related compounds (MTBE, TBA).
  • Suitable for sites with low to moderate levels of contamination.
  • Minimal maintenance.
  • Safe — low-pressure operation; eliminates hazardous handling and storage of oxygen cylinders or peroxide-containing compounds.
  • Ease of installation — plugs directly into a 120 V outlet (requires access electricity).
  • Reliable — eliminates irregular deliveries of purchased oxygen
  • Low cost per pound of oxygen delivered to the groundwater.
  • Injected directly into the aquifer via a proprietary microbubbler sparger.

Microbubbler Advantages:

  • Basic oxygen generator unit delivers 24 pounds of bioavailable oxygen per day.
  • Produces a 2-micron oxygen bubble.
  • Can use existing 1 to 2-inch monitoring wells for installation.
  • Oxygen generator connects to a 120-volt power source.
  • Small, simple, efficient, predictable, easy to use, and very low maintenance.
  • It does not require periodic site visits to change oxygen cylinders.

Versatile:

  • Use to treat the source, polish off-sites, or stop off-site migration.
  • One unit can provide oxygen for up to 3 wells simultaneously or multiple wells with a controller and timer to sparge each well for a set time.

Portable:

  • Easily moved to a new injection point or new site.

Affordable:

  • Annual power cost for generator operation is the same as a 350 watt light bulb.
  • Lowest annual O & M of any competitive technologies.
  • Installs in a few hours and is extremely easy to use
